Modern Courtyard, Warwick

Lucy was asked to design a courtyard in Warwick to extend the young couples living space.  Lucy wanted to continue the contemporary feel of the homes interior and create a space for entertaining and relaxing.

The hardwood deck blurs the line between the interior and exterior especially when the french doors off the living room are open on a warm day.  Stepping off the deck onto Travertine one then finds the seat built into the raised beds, providing a place to relax and enjoy the garden.

Materials and tones were carefully chosen to lighten the garden and make it feel bigger.  White rendered walls really brighten the space and continue the contemporary feel.  Stainless stell was chosen to edge the deck to ensure the curves in the design were retained.  The stainless steel also works well with the garden furniture.

Lucy designed the contemporary planting to soften the space and introduce movement.  Grasses were combined with box to introduce texture contrasts and flashes of purple were introduced with Alliums and Verbena.  The planting is low maintenance as requested by my busy clients

"We are really thrilled with our garden. We never thought a space this small could look so good and now it feels and looks twice the size. Lucy fulfilled the brief in providing a garden that is an extension of our living space. Neither of us are keen gardeners so it was very important the planting was low maintenance, so far this has been the case. We would highly recommend Lucy to anybody and we are thrilled that Lucy has turned our 'old back yard' into a contemporary urban garden.  Many thanks, Dave and Jane"

The contemporary knott garden creates a striking entrance to the property.

Large Country Garden, near Banbury

Lucy designed a large entertaining area off the newly extended property.  By selecting a similar natural stone to the interior flooring the new interior living space flows outdoors.

The design was based around circles and curves.  The curved raised beds with integral seating, shown above, are built in Hornton stone to match the property.  The beds/seats are arranged around the sunken firepit which has a hardwood cover when not in use.  This area has a separate identity to the main dining area and provides a place to relax after a meal with friends.

The image above shows the raised rendered planter with integral hardwood bench seat.  This area provides premanent seating on the upper level.

Steps lead down to the larger patio area which is surrounded by contemporary planting, including Amelanchier lamarckii, Fatsia Japonica, Miscanthus sinensis 'Malepartus', Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' and Buxus sempervirens cubes.

Contemporary Garden, Stratford upon Avon

Lucy designed a contemporary garden for her young client in Stratford upon Avon.  The aim of the design was to create a modern outdoor space to entertain in and provide an attractive outlook from his new home.  The garden was a complete blank canvas (as the 'before' photo shows below) prior to design works.

Lucys design includes two patio areas, a raised bed with integral seat and contemporary planting with purple being the predominant flower colour.  Ornamental grasses add texture and movement and will look stunning in the winter months dusted with frost.

The use of Travertine paving and white rendered walls brightens up the garden and makes it appear larger.

The garden will become a haven to relax and unwind in and enjoy the last rays of sunshine in summer months.  Fragrance will also envelope the small space adding another element to the design.

Lucy designed a beautiful hardwood deck to extend the home outdoors, shown above, and the central raised bed with built in seat provides permanent seating in the garden.  The tones of the hardwood timber work well with the brickwork and planting.

The Japanese Acer acts as the main focal point, its red foliage complimenting the interior decor scheme.  Centralised on the living room window it will provide a stunning outlook from indoors when the garden is perhaps to cold to venture outside.

Family Garden, Warwickshire

Lucy was approached to design a garden for a young family in Warwickshire.  A large area of block paving and a neighbouring barn wall dominated the garden and the dry, shady corner was also an issue which needed to be resolved.

Timber was used where possible to soften the garden which has a large amont of brickwork on show.  Curves were also used to soften the awkward shape of the garden and create areas surrounded by lush planting to suit shade and planting to attract wildlife for their young son to enjoy.

A new gate was installed for privacy and security and an instant hedge was planted to attract birds and blur the boundary.

"We had quite a small, shaded & difficult back garden space to utilise. Lucy took plenty of time to really understand what we'd like to use the garden for & what we'd really like to see growing in it. The end result was a design that exceeded our expectations & has provided a much more useable space than we ever thought possible. The garden & planting has been complete for about 6 months now so we're really looking forward to seeing how everything has settled in over winter & to a wonderful spring & summer in our amazing new garden"-Simon and Michelle

Lucys design shows clearly how the garden was based around curved raised beds and steps to lead you around the space.

"Lucy Bravington designed my garden from scratch, incorporating all the features required. The result from Lucy was an innovative and unique garden that, whilst adopting a Romanesque/Mediterranean style, was ultimately rendered unique as a direct result of her manner of putting ideas onto paper. I am extremely pleased with her design and consider that she should eventually be recognised by her peers as one of the best landscape designers in the country. She is undoubtedly very talented as well as being academically qualified for her chosen profession."-Adrian

Sloping Garden, Worcestershire

The extreme slope to this garden allows for several level changes. I have designed the garden to surround the house in an amphitheatre effect.

My clients wanted to bring a 'taste of Italy' into their garden and desired native plants to attract wildlife. A water feature was also on the wish list along with "no lawn"! I have designed the garden with paths to lead you around the whole garden to take in all the raised planting beds. You can look over into the waterfeature with 'letterbox' water shoot into the pool below. Pausing along the way at the seats built into the raised planters surround you with fragrant planting.

The walnut Travertine gives a real luxury finish to the garden and by using the same product for the conservatory floor really blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors.

With a greenhouse tucked away behind planting the clients can enjoy their garden further. Travertine paving is to be used for the patio, paths and to face all walling bringing the element of Italy into the garden. This paving will contrast with the timber seats and mosaic to the rear wall of the waterfeature. Planting has been designed to introduce fragrance, wildlife and year round interest. Four trees will provide instant impact to the garden.

I will update these photos once the planting has been completed....
