High Line Show Garden

Project Type

Show Garden

Date

June 2019

Location

BBC Gardeners' World Live

When the brief of 'travel' was given for the show gardens of 2019 BBC Gardener's World Live, Lucy instantly knew she would use New York City's HIGH LINE as inspiration.

The High Line is an elevated public park built on a dis-used old freight line, which Lucy actually then visited in November 2018 to gain more insight into the scheme. Lucy's boyfriend even proposed to her on the High Line, so the space is extra special!

Lucy used clean lines and naturalistic planting to create a similar style to Piet Oudolf who designed the High Line project. Three Ginkgo biloba feature trees provided drama and a nod to the typical street tree of New York. Corten steel elements introduced an industrial vibe and represented the environment on which the High Line is built, an old railway line.

Lucy's show garden was awarded a Platinum Medal and the Best Construction Award. Lucy met with Monty Don during the show who said it was his 'favourite' garden at the show, so Lucy was thrilled! Lucy also received great feedback from the head judge, as below and Adam Frost talked through the garden on TV, also as below.
