Victorian Terrace Garden Design in Warwickshire
Project type
Garden Design
Following the renovation of this elegant Victorian terrace in Stratford upon Avon, Lucy's clients wanted their outdoor spaces to reflect the same attention to detail and style as the interior. The rear garden began as a blank canvas—ripe for transformation into a practical and beautiful space for family enjoyment.
The brief included multiple seating areas, rear boundary screening, and soft planting to create atmosphere and visual interest. A small lawn area was also important for the grandchildren to play on, which was later designed using artificial turf for its year-round usability and low-maintenance benefits.
Lucy designed the garden to include three distinct seating areas—demonstrating how even compact urban gardens can be zoned effectively to create the illusion of space and enhance functionality. A calming water feature and ambient lighting scheme were added to extend enjoyment into the evening hours.
To complement the period style of the property, three hard landscaping materials were chosen: limestone paving, limestone setts, and composite decking. These materials not only define each zone but also blend seamlessly with the home’s architectural character.
The front garden was also given a complete makeover. A contemporary take on a formal knot garden brings structure and kerb appeal, anchored by a striking multi-stem Cornus for year-round seasonal interest. Elegant Taxus domes in terracotta pots frame the bay window, while low hedging, hydrangeas, and ferns layer in tones of green for a lush, timeless look.
