Courtyard Garden Design in Stratford-upon-Avon’s Old Town

As part of a full house extension and renovation, Lucy was commissioned to redesign this courtyard garden in Stratford-upon-Avon’s historic Old Town. With the new glazed kitchen and dining room overlooking the garden, the brief was to create a space with real wow factor and year-round interest.

Lucy designed a layered view that draws the eye through planting towards an inviting outdoor dining area, with additional seating at the far end to ensure the entire courtyard could be enjoyed. By removing the lawn, space was freed for generous planting beds filled with colour, texture, and fragrance. Boundary trees provide vertical interest and subtle screening, while natural stone paving was combined with traditional clay pavers to define zones and complement the Victorian character of the property.

The result is a stylish and welcoming courtyard garden that feels like a true extension of the home—beautiful to look at from indoors and a joy to spend time in outdoors.
