Farmhouse Garden Design in Bromsgrove

Lucy was invited to collaborate with her colleague and expert plantsman, The Bearded Botanist, on the redesign of a beautiful farmhouse garden in Bromsgrove. The brief was to create a practical yet elegant layout to enhance the rear of the property, with a focus on new seating and dining areas, an outdoor kitchen, and planting that would provide year-round interest and charm.

One of the key features of the scheme is a planted walkway linking the rear doors of the farmhouse to the garden gate and new entertaining area. Designed with shade-loving plants, this pathway not only creates a tranquil journey through the garden but also ensures a soft, green outlook from inside the home. The new entertaining spaces were carefully positioned to benefit from maximum light and sunshine, while Lucy’s design ensured that the scale of the hard landscaping complemented the proportions of both the expansive garden and the traditional Victorian farmhouse.

Sustainability and resourcefulness were also considered. Lucy reused much of the existing paving in the new configuration, blending it seamlessly with newly specified light-coloured clay pavers. These add texture and visual interest while tying the design back to the heritage of the property.

A standout feature of the garden is the bespoke concrete outdoor kitchen, designed by Lucy to accommodate a pizza oven and provide generous worktop space. The design also incorporated seating for stylish Philippe Starck-inspired bar stools, creating a sociable hub where family and friends can gather.

Throughout the project, Lucy worked closely with The Bearded Botanist and the landscape contractors to ensure every detail of the design, planting, and construction was carefully coordinated. The result is a garden that feels harmonious with the farmhouse’s character, offers a perfect balance of entertaining and relaxation spaces, and makes the most of the property’s full potential.
