Lucy was commissioned to design an extraordinary garden for a private residence, creating a space that combines luxury, functionality, and striking contemporary design. The brief included multiple entertaining areas, a large swimming pool, spa, outdoor shower, contemporary pavilion, croquet lawn, and a productive kitchen garden. To elevate the scheme further, six sculptural art pieces were carefully positioned to become focal points within the landscape.
Working in collaboration with the architect and various trades during the property’s extension, Lucy ensured the garden integrated seamlessly with the new additions to the home, which included a pool house, cinema room, wine tasting room, and lounge areas. Together, they created a complete entertaining complex — the perfect retreat for family gatherings and hosting friends.
The design embraced water as a key element of the scheme. Alongside the pool, a tranquil pond and two additional water features were introduced to create atmosphere, sound, and drama. To transform the space at night, Lucy specified a bespoke garden lighting scheme. Ambient lighting, strobe effects, and even smoke machines were added — producing a theatrical setting for evening events.
Planting was used to give each zone its own distinct character. Lucy created a carefully layered planting scheme to suit the style of each area, ensuring seasonal interest, texture, and colour throughout the year. Bespoke metal pool fencing and matching gates were designed as sculptural features in themselves, blending safety with elegance. To soften the contemporary pavilion, Lucy recommended cladding one wall in smoked mirror — reflecting the garden back into the space and visually lightening the structure.
The result is a bold yet elegant modern garden design filled with drama, detail, and personality. With its many layers — from art and architecture to planting and lighting — the garden invites exploration and provides endless opportunities for entertaining and enjoyment.
